It is a perfect, nutritious food for these amazing, tiny humans.
It is uniquely made for each baby and changes to suit their
individual needs as they grow.

child are fully acknowledged by professionals worldwide.

illnesses in childhood and also in later life

Breastfeeding will protect your baby from:

• Ear infections
• Diarrhoea, gastro enteritis, and tummy upsets
• Chest infections and wheezing type illnesses
• Less chance of eczema
• Lower risk of diabetes
• Better mental development
• Better mouth formation and straighter teeth

Breastfeeding also protects a mother’s own health it:

• Lowers the risk of breast cancer
• Lowers the risk of ovarian cancer
• Gives you a faster return to your pre-pregnancy figure
• Gives you stronger bones in later life

At Berwick Sure Start we are committed to giving mums up to date information around breastfeeding, then allowing them to make informed decisions for themselves.

We are also committed to supporting mothers while they are breastfeeding by introducing them to our Breastfeeding Peer Supporters. The peer supporters are mums themselves who are enthusiastic about breastfeeding, and are available to meet you on a one to one basis.

Family Support Workers - What do they do?

As well as working with groups of parents, carers and children in the community, Sure Start Berwick Borough Family Support Team provides an outreach service within individual family's homes and/or in community venues.

Families get involved with Sure Start in different ways. You can contact us directly to request assistance from a Family Support Worker or you can ask your Health Visitor, Midwife etc.

What Services are offered?

* Information about Sure Start Berwick Borough and help in accessing our services e.g. groups.
* Advice/support on your child's needs and development.
* Direct work with you as a parent on coping with stress, problem solving, linking you into other agencies in the community where appropriate

What happens next?

* We will work with you to draw up a goal plan which identifies your needs.
* You will receive a copy
* Your Family Support Worker will arrange to visit you to help you achieve your agreed goals
* A record of the work will be stored confidentially with Sure Start Berwick Borough and will only be shared with your permission
* The only exception is when workers have a duty to share or discuss their concerns with others in order to safeguard a child
* After 6 weeks a review will take place to look at progress made
* We would hope that all work will be completed within a time scale of 3 months
* However if your circumstances change or you need help on different issues you can get back in touch

What if I'm not happy?

If you are not happy with the Family Support Service, you can raise your concern directly with your worker or contact Jan Casson, Programme Manager, either by telephone or in writing (see contact details). Your concern will be addressed in line with Sure Start Berwick Borough's Complaints Procedure.

We want to hear from you!

Your compliments, comments and suggestions for improvements are very important to us. If you have any views or ideas on how any of our services can be improved, or you want more information about this or any other Sure Start Berwick Borough Service, please get in Touch
